چکیده

It has been established recently that there is an interesting thermodynamic ‘‘equivalence’’ between noninteracting Bose and spinless Fermi gases in two dimensions, and between onedimensional Bose and Fermi systems with linear dispersion, both in the grand-canonical ensemble. These are known to be special cases of a larger class of equivalences of noninteracting systems having an energy-independent single-particle density of states (DOS). Furthermore, the thermodynamic equivalence has also been established for any noninteracting quantum gas with a discrete ladder-type spectrum in the canonical ensemble. Here we investigate the intriguing possibility that the equivalence for systems with a constant DOS is a special case of a more general equivalence between noninteracting Bose and Fermi gases with a discrete ladder-type spectrum in the grand-canonical ensemble, which reduces to the constantDOS case when the level-spacing approaches zero. By direct numerical calculation of the Bose and Fermi grand-canonical free energies, we conclude that the grand-canonical equivalence does not apply to the ladder-spectrum case. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. Perturbative thermodynamic geometry of nonextensive ideal classical, Bose, and Fermi gases.

We investigate perturbative thermodynamic geometry of nonextensive ideal classical, Bose, and Fermi gases. We show that the intrinsic statistical interaction of nonextensive Bose (Fermi) gas is attractive (repulsive) similar to the extensive case but the value of thermodynamic curvature is changed by a nonextensive parameter. In contrary to the extensive ideal classical gas, the nonextensive on...

The equation of state of ultracold Bose and Fermi gases: a few examples

We describe a powerful method for determining the equation of state of an ultracold gas from in situ images. The method provides a measurement of the local pressure of an harmonically trapped gas and we give several applications to Bose and Fermi gases. We obtain the grand-canonical equation of state of a spin-balanced Fermi gas with resonant interactions as a function of temperature [1]. We co...

Harmonically Trapped Quantum Gases

We solve the problem of a Bose or Fermi gas in d-dimensions trapped by δ ≤ d mutually perpendicular harmonic oscillator potentials. From the grand potential we derive their thermodynamic functions (internal energy, specific heat, etc.) as well as a generalized density of states. The Bose gas exhibits Bose-Einstein condensation at a nonzero critical temperature Tc if and only if d+ δ > 2, and a ...

Relativistic Quantum Thermodynamics of Ideal Gases in 2 Dimensions

In this work we study the behavior of relativistic ideal Bose and Fermi gases in two space dimensions. Making use of polylogarithm functions we derive a closed and unified expression for their densities. It is shown that both type of gases are essentially inequivalent, and only in the non-relativistic limit the spinless and equal mass Bose and Fermi gases are equivalent as known in the literature.
